The Navarra Quartet is one of the UK’s best young quartets, and this is their debut in the LCMS series. They perform Haydn’s Bird quartet (so called because of a bird-like repeating figure in the first movement), one of Brahms’s most impressive chamber works, completed in Bavaria in summer 1873 after a long gestation, and String Quartet No.3 by the famous Latvian composer Pēteris Vasks.
(N.B. Unfortunately James Francis Brown is unwell and has been unable to complete his new work for the Navarra Quartet, which was due to be premiered in this concert).
