The Chilingirian Quartet are delighted to welcome one of Italy’s finest flautists Massimo Mercelli to co-present the UK Premiere of Polish composer Krzysztof Penderecki’s Flute Quartet.
‘When Massimo Mercelli offered us the UK Premiere of Penderecki’s Flute Quartet, we were delighted to present the music of one of the greatest living composers in the exciting atmosphere of the Kings Place Festival. His challenging and deeply musical output has expanded their repertoire with masterpieces, such as the sextet for clarinet, horn, string trio and piano, premiered by Rostropovich and his many distinguished partners such as Dimitri Alexeev and Yuri Bashmet. For this concert, we present a concentrated and contrasting programme containing the most intense work of Beethoven, his Quartetto Serioso as well as Mozart’s sunny D Major Flute Quartet.’
