Overview

Chilingirian Quartet with Alasdair Beatson

PART OF CHAMBER CLASSICS UNWRAPPED

Mozart Divertimento in E flat for string trio, K563
Brahms Piano Quartet No. 3 in C minor, Op. 60

Members of the Chilingirian Quartet
with Alasdair Beatson piano

Members of the famous Chilingirian Quartet perform Mozart’s astonishing string trio, one of his most substantial and powerful chamber works, poorly represented by its somewhat lightweight name ‘Divertimento’. In the second half, the trio is joined by pianist Alasdair Beatson in an equally personal and passionate chamber work, Brahms’s C minor Piano Quartet, completed in 1875, and drawing upon both his love for Clara Schumann and veiled references to the main protagonist in Goethe’s novel Werther.
