LCMS Foyer Concert: Solem Quartet - Sunday 1st December, 5.45pm

Mozart – Quartet in D minor K421
Britten – Alla Marcia
Britten – 3 Divertimenti

Michael Jones (violin); Catherine Landen (violin); Alistair Vennart (viola); Stephanie Tress (cello)

Formed in September 2011, the Solem Quartet were brought together by their studies at the University of Manchester, where they take their name from the University motto “arduus ad solem”, meaning “striving towards the sun”.

Having all moved on to study at the Royal Northern College of Music, the quartet has had success in competitions including the RNCM Nossek Prize and the Britten Centenary Intercollegiate String Quartet Competition, among others, and performed widely across the UK including venues such as Wigmore Hall.
The Solem Quartet are regularly coached by Pavel Fischer and Levon Chilingirian and have benefitted from inspirational teaching from many great chamber musicians including Gábor Takács-Nagy, Christoph Richter, Peter Cropper, Thomas Riebl and members of the Brodsky, Chilingirian, Elias, Ysaÿe, Talich and Maggini Quartets.
The quartet are thrilled to precede the Maggini Quartet’s evening concert, having received invaluable coaching from its members, and look forward to studying with them intensively at Wellington College in January.
