Overview

Stradivari Quartet

Mozart String Quartet in B flat, K. 589
Janacek String Quartet No. 2, Intimate Letters
Brahms String Quartet in B flat, Op. 67

Xiaoming Wang violin
Sebastian Bohren violin
Lech Antonio Uszynski viola
Maja Weber cello

The Swiss-German based Stradivari Quartet, one of Europe’s finest quartets, also holds the distinction of all its member playing fine Stradivarius instruments. In a sense this concert features a double quartet, with the four fine instruments as prominent as the four superb musicians playing them – Xiaoming Wang, Sebastian Bohren, Lech Antonio Uszynski and Maja Weber. Their programme presents a trio of late works – Mozart’s penultimate quartet, composed in 1790, the year before he died, Janacek’s highly autobiographical final quartet and the wonderfully expressive quartet by Brahms, the last of his three contributions to the genre.

The Chaudière Quartet has participated in many concerts, most notably their performance of Shostakovich String Quartet No.7 at Wigmore Hall.

Success in small scale competitions has given them the opportunity to perform throughout the UK and for organisations such as Norwich Chamber Society, Music at Dingley and Rhyl Music Club.

They have taken part in an exchange program with a Lithuanian quartet and an experienced quartet from the Baratt Due institute in Oslo, where the quartet gave multiple performances of Mendelssohn’s String Octet in and around Oslo as well as the UK, whilst gaining valuable experience working with other groups.

More recently they have also had masterclasses with The Carducci Quartet and Doric String Quartet.
