The Allegri Quartet celebrate their 60th anniversary in a programme opening with the quartet Mozart composed in 1783, apparently whilst his wife Constanze was giving birth to their first child in the next room. The first quartet by British composer Peter Fribbins follows, its title drawing upon lines from the poem Twicknam Garden by the metaphysical English poet John Donne. The concert finishes with the first quartet by Johannes Brahms, finally completed by its 40-year-old composer in 1873, after many years struggling with the project.
