Overview

LCMS – Camerata Tchaikovsky directed by Yuri Zhislin, with Karin Dahlberg (soprano)

Mozart Divertimento No. 1 in D, K.136 Salzburg Symphony
Britten Les Illuminations for soprano and strings, Op. 18
Arturo Cuellar Concertino for Strings (premiere)
Tchaikovsky Souvenir de Florence, Op. 70

The celebrated chamber orchestra of Russian string players presents Mozart’s beautiful Divertimento in D and Tchaikovsky’s melodious and expressive Souvenir de Florence, composed after his holiday there in 1890. In between comes a colourful new work by the Colombian composer Arturo Cuellar, and Benjamin Britten’s striking ‘Les Illuminations’ song cycle from 1940, setting poems by Rimbaud, sung in this concert by famous Swedish soprano Karin Dahlberg.

‘Their richly confident playing is startlingly good: taut, precise and immaculately phrased.’ ★★★★ The Observer
