The Callino Quartet performs one of Haydn’s last quartets and Shostakovich’s third quartet composed in 1946, just after he had been attacked by the Soviet authorities for his ninth symphony. Their concert is completed with the second of Mendelssohn’s three Op. 44 quartets: in March 1837 Mendelssohn married the 19 year old Cécile Jeanrenaud, and worked on this Quartet during their subsequent honeymoon in the Black Forest.

Keen chamber musicians, violinist Joana Valentinaviciute and violist Stanislav Popov have performed across Scandinavia and Europe, presenting concerts with various ensembles, from duos to an octet.
In recent years they have formed their duo Octacorda and have performed in the UK, France, Sweden and Canada. Since 2008, Octacorda have regularly performed as part of the Chamber Music Concert Series at Malmo Opera Theatre, Sweden and have also participated in the international music festival Pablo Casals Prades. Their performances in London have included venues such as the National Gallery and the V&A Museum.
