Brahms Piano Quartet No. 2 in A, Op. 26

Emilie-Anne Gendron violin
David Yang viola
Kenneth Woods cello
with Daniel de Borah piano

This is the second of a mini-series of three concerts celebrating the string trio, a genre arguably even more organic and taut than the string quartet. Each concert pairs one of Beethoven’s remarkable Op. 9 set of trios with a 20th-century example in the medium, and then adds a pianist to present one of the three piano quartets by Brahms.

This concert features the second of the Beethoven trios, and the wonderfulPassacaglia & Fugue for string trio by Hans Krása, the Czech composer whose career tragically ended in Auschwitz in 1944. In the second half, Ensemble Epomeo is joined by the celebrated Brahms interpreter Daniel de Borah in Brahms’ beautiful A major piano quartet.
