Overview

Chilingirian Quartet and Andrew Marriner (clarinet)

Haydn – String Quartet Op.64 No.3 in B flat-major Hob.III/67
Ravel – String Quartet in F
Mozart – Quintet for Clarinet & Strings In A K.581 with Andrew Marriner

The Chilingirian Quartet is joined by clarinettist Andrew Marriner in a performance of Mozart’s ever-popular Clarinet Quintet. This is paired with the third of Haydn’s Op.64 string quartets, known as the ‘Tost quartets’, after the Hungarian violinist Johann Tost who helped Haydn find a publisher for the works. Maurice Ravel’s poignant string quartet from 1903 offers a distinctive and colourful take on classical eighteenth-century style.
