Overview

Mishka Rushdie Momen and Alasdair Beatson – two pianos

Mozart – Sonata in D major K. 448
Brahms – Variations on a theme by Haydn “St. Anthony Variations” Op. 56b
Schumann – Six Etudes in Canonic Form Op. 56 (arr. Debussy)
Messiaen – Amen des Anges, des Saints, du chant des oiseaux (from Visions de l’Amen)
Debussy – En Blanc et Noir

Two outstanding pianists take us on a fascinating journey of musical connections. A sonata for two pianos by Mozart begins, and then a musical theme by his great friend Haydn, via Brahms’s famous variations. Schumann’s Six Etudes, as arranged by Debussy, signals a move to France. Magical music by Messiaen, from his ‘Visions de l’Amen’, then forms a colourful prelude to Debussy’s stunning ‘En Blanc et Noir’.
